What?
From LA Food Waste Grant Challenge:
  • Since 2011, The Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) works to ensure that all Angelenos have access to Good Food – food that is healthy affordable, sustainable, and fairly produced. It achieves this goal by cultivating an active network of over 300 organizations and 4,500 engaged practitioners and advocates, aligning strategic partners across issues and sectors, and making impact through policy change and catalytic projects. LAFPC has expertise in the food waste prevention, recovery, and composting, largely through the strategic guidance of its Food Waste Prevention and Rescue Working Group. LAFPC and the Working Group played a key role in developing food recovery aspects of the City’s new RecycLA waste franchise program, and brokering partnerships between food recovery organizations, waste haulers, and the City. LAFPC and the Working Group published a guide called Reducing Food Waste: Recovering Untapped Resources in our Food System to highlight best practices for policymakers and the public for diverting food from landfills through food recovery and compost. The guide profiles food recovery organizations throughout LA, demystifies regulations about food donation, and educates readers about the environmental and economic benefits of reducing food waste.
